The archetype
The vital fire, creativity, the passion that moves and heals. The woman who rises and takes up space. The power of saying "yes" to herself. Natural magnetism, leadership of the heart.
In the tarot
In traditional tarot the Queen of Wands is warmth, self-confidence, charisma. She is the woman who walks into a room and lights it up, who knows what she wants and goes after it with energy and generosity. In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck she holds a sunflower, lions are carved on her throne and a black cat sits at her feet: the sun, courage and a magic all her own.
Light
Vitality, enthusiasm, courage, creativity, spontaneity. Passion that inspires. Clarity in her desires. Generosity, warmth, the joy of living and sharing.
Shadow
Impulsiveness, need for approval, competition, control. Fear of not being chosen. Contempt for the body and for her own needs. Exhaustion from giving too much or proving herself.
The journey
Rediscovering her own fire. Coming back into the body. Claiming the right to desire. Creating without permission. Leading her own life with passion and authenticity.
Recognizing her in you
Your fire is alive: desire, body, creativity, the courage to take up space.
You feel her strongly when…
- facing a decision, you follow your instinct: if it lights you up, it's a yes;
- you listen to your body and follow it, because it tells you what you desire;
- when you are tired, you need to move, dance, let it all out;
- the hardest thing for you is waiting.
Giving her space
The step toward the Empress is burning for yourself, not to be chosen, and leading your life without having to prove anything.
Element and signs
Fire is the element of energy, desire and initiative: the spark that sets things in motion, the warmth that passes on to others. In the zodiac it is the element of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius, signs of drive, passion and courage.
You don't need to be born under these signs to have this Queen strong in you: the element speaks of a quality we all carry, not of a date of birth.
Her words
I desire myself.
I desire my life.
I desire what sets me alight.
I don't ask permission.
I don't apologize for my desire.
My fire is sacred.
I burn. I create. I am.
